Could these hotels be going north of the Holiday Inn and Ethan Allen store, or is that plot of land too small?

Maybe I'm off by a parcel, but I thought the area to the south of the Applebee's was being developed as the Watermark Apartments? Tons of apartment construction underway to the south Wal-Mart right now.

From what i can find Watermark is the chunk of land to the sw, behind walmart somewhat, that has its south end even with S68th st. (see this link for map)

So that would seem to leave land for the hotels to the east.

Paradise Biryani Pointe is coming to 6630 Mills Civic Pkwy. It is the former Maid-Rite between Knockout Nails and 2nd Wind.

They are a small chain. About 40 in the US.

What a missed opportunity that they couldn't have located across the street. You know... in Paradise Pointe. :D

On the upside, think of all the fun, Abbott & Costello style conversations trying to describe where this place is.

I know, it took me a while to figure out where this was because I thought it was in Paradise Pointe. i thought Google Maps was crazy.

The old Maid Rite location is in a terrible spot. I hope this place can bee seen from the street because it sits really far off the road. Don't forget, another Indian restaurant is going near Ulta in the Jordan Creek village just down the street.

Yeah, this whole stripmall has to be the worst in all of Jordan Creek-land. Horrible visibility from any of the main roads, generally uninteresting tenants, and the lowest visual appeal of anything else around. In a fantasy world, this whole plat would get a do-over, but realistically just getting more interesting shops and restaurants might be the best it can hope for. If this Indian place is any good, replacing a Maid-Rite is an upgrade IMO.

I don't agree with you on visibility. A lot of strips around you don't see all the tenants from the street. West Glen, Governor's Square, Clocktower Square, Jordan Creek Market, University Park.

They do have signs on the main road and that's more than I can say for some of the ones I mentioned.

Most if not all the ones you mentioned have numerous empty bays and a long list of revolving door businesses.

I would agree with most everyone that there is a bit of a mess in the planning on the south side of this road. So many businesses with poor visibility you wouldnt even know were there. versus the other side that i could probably identify every business along that stretch. Not sure if its all the visibility or just very few businesses that i have an interest in.

Touche. I guess I don't have to like it, and they don't have to care what I think.

Seems like for that portion on the south side of the property, they take whatever they can get. Definitely not the upscale development initially proposed...but that went out the window when they added Wal-Mart.

I have heard that it has been absolutely mobbed since opening. The Indian community is embracing the business as there is nothing else similar (yet open) in the area. I heard there was a long line a half hour before opening on their first day of business.

Wow that's good. Wonder when the Indian restaurant will open in Jordan Creek. I wonder how two in the same vicinity will do?

I've wondered why there wasn't an Indian restaurant out west. Esp because there seems to be a significant community these days.

We were there on Sunday and were lucky that we got there at opening and got a table, because the place was absolutely mobbed. And not just the Indian community, but there was a pretty diverse and enthusiastic crowd there. The food was fantastic!

These 2 new hotels will really be visually dominate along the Mills corridor similar to the Holiday Inn & Suites across the street. Both Hilton brands are 5 floors with tall roof features. Holiday Inn is 6 with a somewhat flat roof. The construction in this area is just exploding with numerous apartment projects, retail and a soon to break ground 5 level senior apartment complex similar to Edgewater in features but much smaller in size. This will certainly push developers to look east of 60th at the two large fields north and south Mills and to the west of Jordan Creek Parkway north of Athene's campus.

Great to hear the update about everything going on in this corner of West Des Moines. If this keeps up, maybe developers can even start looking at building out West Glen Town Center or Village of Ponderosa. Would be nice to eventually see these master planned projects claimed a success, and not viewed as toxic by developers and business owners.

Merle Norman Cosmetics has open in the Galleria (at 6305 Mills Civic Parkway, Suite 3107). This is in the strip with Starbucks and Smallcakes. I had thought Smallcakes took the last remaining store in that strip (where Huntington Learning Center was). Maybe it was split into two stores.
